Das Pfeilblatt besitzt den botanischen Namen "Alocasia". Übersetzt bedeutet dies so viel wie "der Baum, der zum Himmel wächst". Ursprünglich stammt das Pfeilblatt aus Südostasien bevor es in den 1950er nach Europa kam. Seitdem wird es gerne als Zimmerpflanze gehalten. Dabei sollte auf direkte Sonneneinstrahlung verzichtet werden. Dennoch sollte der Standort möglichst hell sein.
